Dirty Dancing in the Mountains

Lake Lure, a hamlet in the Blue Ridge foothills of Rutherford County, N.C., takes great pride in being the backdrop for the movie "Dirty Dancing." The cult classic about a girl who falls in love with a boy from the other side of the resort was filmed in many locations around the area.

Last month, the town did a stellar job of hosting the fourth annual Dirty Dancing Festival. This month, autumn abounds in a destination of simple pleasures, where nature (check out Chimney Rock State Park) delivers the greatest adventures.
